Auteure

Professor Margaret Larkin is a scholar of Arabic literature whose work covers both the classical and modern periods and deals with texts composed in both literary Arabic and Egyptian colloquial Arabic. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Middle East Languages and Cultures in 1989. She also studied at the American University in Cairo. In 2010 Larkin was named the Bayard Dodge Distinguished Visting Professor in the Department of Arab and Islamic Civilizations at the American University in Cairo.

Her areas of particular interest include :

- iʽjāz al-Qur’ān (the stylistic inimitability of the Qur’an) ;
- poetry of Abu’l-Ṭayyib al-Mutanabbī (d. 965 CE) ;
- literature of the Mamlūk era, especially popular poetry.

"L’auteur se propose d’examiner la question de l’influence de l’oeuvre du qâdi mu’tazilite ’Abd al-Gabbâr, mort en 415/1024 et notamment de son ouvrage monumental al Mugnî fî abwâb al tawhîd wa al ’adl, sur la pensée de `Abd al-Qâhir al-Gurgânî (mort en 471/1078) ; cela pour réagir à la tendance que "some modern critics" manifestent à traiter l’oeuvre de ce penseur non seulement comme séparée du contexte intellectuel dans lequel elle s’est formée, mais aussi comme une pièce unique dans la chaîne des savants dont elle a hérité (p. 10)" (Bettini (Lidia), BCAI,15 (1999), p. 8.)
